About the artist

Galina Lysenko

My story with art began in childhood. I was born in Kyrgyzstan and grew up in Kazakhstan. When I was five, I was given a set of watercolors. It was winter — I would sit on the windowsill, watch the snow fall, and paint my first winter landscapes. At fourteen I passed the entrance exams to art school, but life turned another way, and that first chapter ended there.

Many years and several countries later, at fifty-seven, I finally had the time to return to what I had always loved. I taught myself modern materials and techniques — texture paste, acrylic, oil, epoxy resin — and quickly discovered my love for large formats: space, scale, and the feeling of real volume on the canvas. Many of my works are around 50 × 60 inches.

My artistic language is built on texture, volume, and surrealism. A painting is born first in my imagination, then slowly carried onto the canvas. For me, color, texture, and form are not just artistic tools — they are a way to carry energy and emotion.

I never want to hand the viewer a single correct interpretation. I am far more interested in each person seeing something of their own in a painting. I believe art begins where the viewer does not simply look at a picture, but feels it.
